David Moyes has been appointed as manager of Manchester United on a six-year contract, the English Premier League champions said.
Al Jazeera’s sports editor Joanna Gasiorowska said that the news, announced on Thursday, has been expected “for some time”.
Manchester United’s long-time coach, Sir Alex Ferguson, who recently announced his retirement from the post, released a statement saying that the decision to hire Moyes was a unanimous one, as Moyes is “a man of great integrity with a strong work ethic”.
Moyes, the current Everton manager, will take charge of United from July 1.
