Sri Lankans hit by power price hike

Price increase causes uproar in parliament as consumers will see bills increase by up to 50 percent.

The Ceylon Electricity Board is increasing electricity rates to make up for a $400m shortfall in its annual bill for generating and providing power.

Some people will see their bills increase by as much as 50 percent.

The issue has caused an uproar, even in parliament which was suspended for a day after politicians came close to trading blows.
