More than two years since violence began in Syria, many cities and towns have been drawn into the conflict.
But some areas have remained neutral.
Elders in the town of Quaryatayn, north of Damascus have struck deals with both the government and rebels.
But as Al Jazeera’s Sue Turton reports, that peace has now been broken.
