Afghan and NATO military officials say they have killed more than 20 armed fighters in a joint operation in the east.
Din Mohammad Darwesh, spokesman for the government of Logar province, said the two-day operation that ended on Tuesday night also killed a local Taliban commander.
Darwesh said two civilians were wounded in Baraki Barak district.
There were no immediate reports of Afghan or international forces deaths.
The NATO military coalition says in a statement that the troops killed 24 fighters as part of the operation that rescued two captured Afghan soldiers.
Afghan officials gave varying numbers of 23 to 26 fighters killed.
Tuesday’s killings come after eight suicide bombers attacked a police headquarters in Jalalabad, the capital of Nangarhar province, killing five officers and wounding four others.
