Alaska’s ‘Thousand-mile’ race on final stage

Putting together ultimate dog racing team and winning involve lots of training and strategizing.

The Iditarod race considered by some to be the hardest on earth is in its final stage in Alaska.

A total of 66 teams of dog-sledders – or mushers – are racing across the frozen landscape of the northern US state.

Dog sledding has been around for centuries and when it comes to the Iditarod, there is a lot of training and strategizing that goes into putting together the ultimate racing team.

Al Jazeera’s Cath Turner reports from the Alaskan city of Nome.
