Torrential rain inundates Macedonia
Flooding has been extensive in the north and east of the country.
One person has been killed after flooding engulfed parts of Macedonia.
The flooding was triggered by days of heavy rain, which has been heaviest in the north and east of the country.
Hundreds of residents had to be evacuated from their homes, as the waters rose. Power cuts affected tens of thousands of people.
The man who died was swept away as he tried to cross a river near the northern town of Kumanovo.
The fast flowing rivers also destroyed bridges, which completely cut off a village. The authorities are concerned that the force of the water may cause the Pistica dam in eastern Macedonia to collapse.
The rains have been caused by the same system that flooded Athens five days ago.
The system is forecast to move eastwards over the next few days, and the rains should ease on Thursday.
