China boosts Chile copper industry

Chileans have been digging deeper copper mines to meet China’s strong demand.

Chile, the world’s largest copper producer, is expected to produce almost six million tonnes this year. And China has helped it become the wealthiest country in Latin America.

Last year, 80 percent of Chile’s copper was exported to China in deals worth 14 billion dollars.
