Land disputes hamper progress in Myanmar

The disagreements, if not resolved, could undermine the country’s path to political and economic reforms.

As part of reforms by the civilian government in Myanmar, President Thein Sein had promised to release all political prisoners by the end of the year.
But more than 200 protesters are still facing trial, and an increasing number are farmers fighting for land they say was taken from them.
