How Mandela prison number became a brand

Known only as 46664 for almost 30 years in Robben Island prison, Mandela turned his prison number into force for change.

During his time on Robben Island, Nelson Mandela was referred to simply as 46664.

The apartheid government used Robben Island prison to strip inmates of their liberty, and the ID numbers to strip them of their identities. But after his release, Mandela turned his prison number into a force for change.
