The Turkish Prime Minister has sparked a storm of debate after he promised to end mixed-sex student residences in the country.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was responding to neighbourhood complaints about male and female university students living in close proximity.

His critics accuse the conservative government of trying to police people’s private lives.
