New breed of mosquito may help US state

Florida considers releasing genetically modified mosquitoes to curb the spread of Dengue fever.

A British company is planning to release genetically modified mosquitoes into the Florida Keys in the south-east US.

It’s hoped they will breed with existing mosquitos and stop them spreading dengue fever, a growing problem in the area.

But while Florida state awaits approval to release the genetically modified mosquitoes, not everyone is behind the controversial scheme.

Al Jazeera’s Andy Gallacher reports from Florida.
