Bangladeshis have mounted protests to suspend general elections set for January 5.
Government critics say the prime minister, Sheik Hasina, will rig the elections, and demand she resigns beforehand. Hasina has rejected the call and denies the accusations.
Sporadic clashes between protesters and government supporters across the country on Wednesday killed at least seven people and injured many, the Reuters news agency reported.
