Honduras beefs up security ahead of polls

Government has deployed a new military police force to patrol most dangerous cities before Sunday’s elections.

Honduras will hold its first election on Sunday, four years after a coup. It is often described as the murder capital of the world with a government accused of corruption and human rights abuses.

For the first time, Hondurans have been offered an alternative to the ruling party and those supporting the opposition are openly being targeted.
