Many Nepalis sidelined in upcoming elections

Some communities in southern part of Himalayan nation not eligible to vote due to lack of citizenship proof.

Nepal heads to the polls in three days for elections to the constituent assembly.

But many people, who do not have proof of citizenship – especially the ones who do not own land – may not be eligible to vote.

Cultural and familial ties across the border to India and being at the bottom of the caste system make it difficult for some to prove their national identity.
