Venezuela leader pushes for more powers
Nicolas Maduro wins first of two parliament ballots required for use of special presidential powers to fight corruption.

Venezuela’s parliament has backed an initiative of President Nicolas Maduro to increase presidential powers in order to address crippling shortages of basic goods.
With final approval for the initiative expected next week, Maduro says his government has arrested more than 100 businessmen for allegedly manipulating prices.
