Mass protests in Bangkok against amnesty bill

Rallies held across Thai capital against controversial bill that could allow former Prime Minister Thaksin to return.

Rival political groups in Thailand have joined forces in opposition to an amnesty bill that could allow Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s brother, former Prime Minister Thaksin, to return to the country but not to jail.

Thaksin was deposed in a military coup in 2006 and accused of corruption

Demonstrations were held across Thailand’s capital in protest ahead of Monday’s parliamentary vote on the controversial law.
