Searching for Mexico’s missing migrants

Tens of thousands of migrants are kidnapped every year, leaving relatives desperate for answers about their loved ones.

Mexico’s Human Rights Commission estimates that around 22,000 migrants are kidnapped in the country each year.

Many are extorted by gangs and corrupt police for cash, and some are forced to work for the same criminals who kidnapped them.

The government has formed a special unit to deal with the kidnappings, but in many cases, relatives are left without clues of what happened to their loved ones.

Al Jazeera’s Adam Raney reports from Mexico City.
