Debate on Assad’s future to top Geneva talks

Syria has officially become party to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

The move was part of an international deal reached to dismantle Syria’s chemical weapons arsenal and that deal may give the Assad regime a new lease of life.

Russia and the US want to revive a diplomatic initiative in Switzerland that stalled over what should happen to Assad.
