Argentina urges UK to cede Falklands control

In letter published in British newspapers, president calls on UK to “put an end to colonialism”.

Argentina has called for the UK to give up control of the Falkland Islands.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner sent an open letter published in two leading UK newspapers, urging British Prime Minister, David Cameron to “put an end to colonialism”.

She also called on Britain to follow the 1965 UN resolution inviting Argentina and the UK to negotiate a solution over the disputed islands.

Cameron said the future of the islands was up to the people who live there, not Argentina.
