Newcomer surges in Israel polls

Perhaps the biggest winner of Israel’s election was the leader of the new party Yesh Atid, or There is a Future.

Yair Lapid is a former television presenter who only formed the party last year, but could end up finishing second and playing a key role in the next government.

His critics say he offers few concrete proposals on the economy or peace with the Palestinians.
