Al Jazeera has gained exclusive access to the Chadian army’s military campaign against al-Qaeda affiliated fighters inside northern Mali.
The army has taken fighters’ main base in the Tirgharghar Mountains, seizing vehicles, weapons, and even a bulldozer used by the rebels.
They say the bodies of many fighters are strewn about inside the mountain base, but would not allow Al Jazeera to see or film them.
The military also offered no proof of their claim that they killed Mokhtar Belmokhtar, a former al-Qaeda leader, other than a blurry mobile phone picture taken by a soldier.
