China cancels 40th anniversary events to mark closer ties with Japan as territorial dispute escalates.

The 40th anniversary of normalising diplomatic ties between Japan and China has been overshadowed by a dispute over islands in the East China Sea.
China has cancelled many of the events that were to mark closer ties with Japan.
Despite international pressure, neither side is backing down over the spat that puts into question the sovereignty of the islands known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China.
