Kashmir tackles stray canine menace

Armed with just flimsy nets, government-sanctioned dog catchers are tasked with ridding the streets of all stray dogs in the Kashmiri capital of Srinagar.

They are backed by the local population, who say the strays attack young children, and bark at the city’s old people.

The dogs are feared, dreaded, and hated, people say, and there has been a recent increase in attacks recently.

There are over 91,000 stray dogs on the streets of Srinagar alone.
