Afghan returnees find little hope at home

Pakistan’s threat to cancel refugee status of 1.7 million Afghans has forced many home to hardship.

For many Afghans, the fall of the Taliban meant a return home away from the hardships of life as a refugee.

Yet the vast majority have returned to live in poverty in isolated parts of the Afghan capital with only basic services.

Now, with Pakistan threatening not to renew the refugee status of 1.7 million Afghan refugees living within their borders, many Afghans from Pakistan have returned home to find hardship.

In many cases, the food, shelter and money promised to them by Pakistani authorities were not waiting for them in their homeland.
