More than 50,000 people have died in Mexico in a bitter drug war over trafficking routes, while gangs face a clampdown from government forces.
As voters across the country headed to the polls in July, Al Jazeera spoke to one gang member who told of his experience selling drugs, racing horses, and ordering the killing of those who murdered his family.
