Pakistan’s new intelligence chief visits US
Visit of Zaheer ul-Islam signals thawed relations after Islamabad agreed to reopen NATO supply routes.

Zaheer ul-Islam, Pakistan’s intelligence chief, is visiting Washington to hold talks with senior US officials.
He is the first high-ranking Pakistani military official to visit the US since relations between the two countries soured over the US raid on Osama bin Laden’s compound in Abottabad in May last year.
Ties had deteriorated further following a US air raid on a Pakistani military post killed 24 soldiers in November, leading to Islamabad blockading NATO supply routes into Afghanistan.
Ul-Islam’s visit came after Pakistan reopened the routes, the latest sign of improved relations.
