Dangerous circumcisions in South Africa

It’s a proud moment for these women. Their sons have completed an important rite of passage and are now seen as men in the community.

But every year dozens of boys die from botched circumcisions performed by untrained traditional medical providers. Some have even had their genitals fall off because of infection.
