The United States is sending its first ever female boxing team to the Olympic Games in London next month.
Among those travelling to the UK is Claressa Shields, 17, from the city of Flint in Michigan.
According to FBI crime statistics, Flint is ranked as the most dangerous city in the US.
Murders, rapes and robberies dominate the headlines. But Shields says winning a gold medal would help change that.
Al Jazeera’s Kimberly Halkett reports from Flint.
