EU leaders divided ahead of key summit

European leaders appear to be divided ahead of a key summit on Thursday.

Angela Merkel, the German chancellor, has said the eurozone’s total debt liability will not be shared “in her lifetime”.

She also offered very little comfort to Spain, whose prime minister has told his parliament that their debt is becoming unbearable.
