Brazil lags in World Cup preparations

Two years away from FIFA World Cup, host cities across the country are struggling with completing the infrastructure.

It is exactly two years until the 2014 FIFA World Cup begins in Brazil.

The government has an ambitious plan for 12 host cities across the country. But preparations, from building stadiums to expanding airports, have been slow.

Five per cent of the projects have been finished, 41 per cent have not yet been started, and 75 per cent of the stadiums [8 of 12] are not even half way complete.

But then some in Brazil feel that while the pace of construction has been slow, things will work out in the end

Al Jazeera’s Gabriel Elizondo went to two of the host cities to see how they are getting on.
