Bangkok residents unite to fight floods

In the face of poor government relief efforts, locals were forced to depend on each other to prevent further havoc.

Severe flooding triggered by a tropical storm in 2011 wreaked havoc across Thailand, including parts of the capital Bangkok. About 815 people were killed and thousands had to flee their homes after most of the country was inundated.

As many people criticised government efforts to bring relief to disaster-stricken areas, residents in Bangkok were forced to unite to prevent floodwaters from causing further destruction to their properties.

In the face of growing danger, many locals put everything on the line to save their neighbourhoods in the city.
