Tobacco firms ‘foiling anti-smoking drives’

On UN’s Global Day Against Tobacco, WHO says companies are undermining anti-smoking campaigns.

Countries around the world are marking the United Nations’ Global Day Against Tobacco.

Despite strict controls in many countries on the sale and advertising of tobacco products, sales continue to remain strong, and share prices continue to rise.

The World Health Organisation says that while there have been successes in forcing tobacco companies to conform to health warning regulations, those companies are now undermining anti-smoking campaigns.
