WHO to declare global polio emergency

UN agency says drastic rise of infections in Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan poses threat to rest of world.

The World Health Organisation is expected to declare polio as a global health emergency in the wake of rising number of infections.

The WHO says that a drastic rise in infections in Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, poses a threat to the rest of the world.

This has clouded the recent successes against the disease, which saw the number of polio cases worldwide drop to less than 1,000 each year.

Al Jazeera’s Tarek Bazley reports.
