Scavenging for survival in oil-rich Venezuela
Indigenous community struggles as rubbish pickers while failing to benefit from southern city’s prosperity.

Parts of oil-rich Venezuela are benefiting from high oil prices, but a significant number of poverty-stricken communities say they have been marginalised by the government.
In the southern city of Ciudad Guayana, many members of the Warao community – an indigenous group which says it has not seen the benefits of the city’s booming oil industry – have been forced to scavenge through massive trash dumps in order to survive.
