Opposition calls on Damascus to rise up

Syria’s capital remains a power base for Assad, but activists and armed opposition are hopeful this will change.

Opposition activity in Damascus intensifies

“Damascus, here we come” was the latest rallying cry of Syria’s anti-government protests on Friday.

The slogan seems to indicate that opposition fighters have their sights on the capital, as government forces continue to pound opposition-strongholds across the country.

Damascus is increasingly becoming the focus of opposition activity amid the occurrences of bombings, hit-and-run attacks, and demonstrations that are quickly stamped out.

Beyond that, however, Damascus remains a fortress of government control.
