Rebellion takes toll on South Kordofan clinic
Makeshift hospital in border region helps those caught in fierce fight between rebels and government.
As thousands of refugees continue to flee the fighting between the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movmement and government forces in the Southern Kordofan region of Sudan, medics struggle to treat those injured in intense fighting that began in July.
The border area betewen Sudan and South Sudan is home to the largest population of ethnic Nuba groups. It has endured aerial bombardments and ongoing fighting since South Sudan became an independent state last summer.
The violence, which the government of Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir has said is a move to oust rebel groups in Nuba, has left hundreds of civilians seriously wounded and with few proper medical facilities.
