Freedom still evades ‘Cuban Five’

Families say men should be returned home, but frosty relations mean spies will remain on US soil.

Cuba Cuban Five spy

Relatives of the so-called “Cuban Five” are continuing to try to bring the group home from the US after they were convicted in 1998 for spying for the Cuban government.

The men were sentenced between 15 years to life in prison and while one of them was released last year, he is still not allowed to return home.

While Cuba acknowledges that the five men were intelligence agents, it says they were spying on Miami’s Cuban exile community, not the US government.

Teresa Bo reports from Havana.
