At least two police officers have been wounded in the Somali capital Mogadishu after a car bomb exploded next to a police department building.

Police said the bomb went off on Friday after they had arrested the driver of a car suspected of carrying explosives.

The United Nations is calling for the protection of thousands of Somalis, who’ve fled fighting in the east of the country.

More than 7,000 people have left the Afgoy corridor – and are heading south towards the capital.

Al Jazeera’s Nazanine Moshiri reports from Mogadishu.
