Second Nairobi blast targets Somali district
Second explosion this week in Eastleigh area of Kenyan capital leaves three dead, with district MP among eight injured.
A blast in in a heavily Somali district of Nairobi, the Kenyan capital, has killed three people and left eight injured, including district MP Yusef Hassan. The dead included a 10-year old and a teenager.
Friday’s blast near the Garissa Lodge shopping district is the second explosion in the Eastleigh suburb of Nairobi this week.
“There’s been another explosion in Eastleigh. This one was near a mosque,” Moses Ombati, Nairobi’s police chief, told the Reuters news agency from the blast site.
Kenyan Red Cross officials said they had dispatched emergency teams.
Ombati said that it was too early to tell the cause of the blast and it was possible the casualty toll would rise.
Friday evening’s blast was the second in three days. A blast on Wednesday near a military base wounded at least eight people.
Eastleigh has been the site of a series of attacks. Last month seven people were killed and many more
wounded in a bomb attack on a bus.
