Hardy bananas proving boon for Indian farmers

Farmers in India cultivating the climate change-resistant fruit as a reliable source of income.

The banana could soon replace many crops as a staple food source, as scientists say the fruit is more resistant to climate change than many others.

Bananas thrive in southern India’s tropical climate – the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Karnataka produce more than 27 million tons of the fruit per year.

Farmers in India have already begun to recognise it as their most reliable source of income.
