Scientists look for life in Antarctic lake

Scientists hope to find insight into whether life can survive in one of coldest environments on earth.

A team of scientists is in the Antarctic searching for signs of life in a lake that has been buried under the ice for hundreds of thousands of years.

Experts from the British Antarctic Survey are preparing to bore down to the sub-glacial Lake Ellsworth, deep beneath the West Antarctic ice sheet, to collect samples of water and sediment.

Al Jazeera’s Dominic Kane reports.
