Bangladesh sceptical of COP18 outcome

Dhaka doubtful whether billions pledged by rich nations for global climate fund will ever be delivered.

Bangladesh is on the front line of climate change, as its low lying delta region is under constant threat of submergence.

Many islands in the southern Bangladesh are shrinking due to rise in water levels, forcing thousands to move to higher ground.

World’s top industrialised countries, who have been blamed for increase in global temperature, have pledged to contribute to a global climate fund to compensate developing countries like Bangladesh for “loss and damage from climate change”.

But concerns have arisen that the agreement reached at the COP18 Climate Change conference in Doha will not help the thousands of people already displaced by the rising waters.
