Brazil’s safer slums attract foreigners

Rio’s once lawless favelas become more secure as police gain control ahead of Olympics and football World Cup.

Brazil’s government is gradually taking control of Rio de Janeiro’s once lawless slums or favelas, as the country prepares to host the football World Cup and the next Olympic Games.

With the favelas now much safer, thanks to the police action in the last three years, foreigners especially Europeans are moving in – attracted by the budget price.
