S Africa leader’s ambitious plan under fire

President Zuma criticised for plan to build tax-funded $250m town next to his home in KwaZulu-Natal province.

South African President Jacob Zuma is being criticised over plans to build a new town only three kilometres from his
family home.

The ambitious project would be the first new town to be built since the end of apartheid.

But, with half of the $250m cost coming from taxpayers’ coffers, many say the president is putting his personal interests before those of the country.
