Deadly cough syrup leaves 19 dead in Lahore

Questions raised over poor regulation of medical industry after deaths in Pakistan city.

At least 19 people have died after drinking toxic cough syrup in the eastern Pakistani city of Lahore.

The deaths have raised questions over the poor regulation of the country’s medical industry.

Doctors in Lahore, for example, say that the number of drug inspectors there has remained the same for the last 40 years, despite a massive increase in the population during that time.

Al Jazeera’s Imran Khan reports from Lahore.
