Russia’s biting cold takes its toll

Government urged to help those at risk as homeless people struggle to survive winter in Moscow.

Extreme temperatures in Russia take a toll on an estimated 100,000 homeless people who struggle to survive winter in the streets of Moscow.

The government says the cold has killed at least 15 people in the last two weeks in the Russian capital alone.

Despite the efforts of both government and voluntary shelters hundreds more homeless men and women are expected to perish in the freezing months ahead.
