New internet laws have come into force in Russia, making it easier for the state to block access to certain online content it considers offensive.

The Russian government says the laws are vital for getting tough on child pornography and cybercrime, but members of the opposition say it is just another ploy by the government to crack down on civil liberties and silence dissent.
