Afghan emergency hospital facing busiest year

Kabul’s only free emergency hospital is heading for its busiest year since it opened near the end of the Taliban’s rule in Afghanistan in 2001.

The UN says the number of injuries and deaths in the summer was higher than during the same period last year – an indication that despite large territorial gains made by NATO and government forces, the Taliban is still able to inflict a large number of civilian casualties.
