Indonesia has authorised local companies to produce a generic version of patented HIV drugs, which were too expensive for many Indonesians.
The new measure nixes patent protection on seven HIV and hepatitis drugs, encouraging citizens to opt for cheaper local drugs.
International pharmaceutical companies are expressing concerns as the move is cutting into their sales.
