Maariv to hit presses for final time
Hundreds of journalists set to lose jobs as one of Israel’s oldest newspapers ceases production.

Established in 1948, the year of Israel’s founding, Maariv is one of the country’s oldest newspapers.
But it is soon to come off the presses for the final time, resulting in some 1,500 staff, including hundreds of journalists, losing their jobs.
Maariv, associated with Israel’s political centre, has struggled to compete with the launch of a free right-wing newspaper, owned by Sheldon Adelson, billionaire US casino tycoon.
